The hotel has repeatedly become the main object against which the culminating events in the cinema unfolded. For example, the 1971 James Bond movie was filmed within the walls of the Plaza. However, there are other films in which you can see this hotel: "Back to the Future. Part II", "The Girl Next Door", "The Stand", "Grand" and dozens of other famous works.

Within the walls of the hotel, not only films were shot, but also music videos and TV shows. For example, it was in Plaza that singer Weeknd filmed his video for the song "Heartless", and Iggy Azalea for the song "Change Your Life", but this is far from a complete list.

The Plaza Hotel & Casino opened its doors for the first time on July 2, 1971. The history of the creation of this complex is divided into several periods, let's get to know it in more detail.

The first steps
Before the construction of the casino began, part of its territory belonged to the first train station in Las Vegas, built back in 1906. Thirty years later, Union Pacific replaced it with another station, but in 1970 the new building was demolished, and construction began on the future large casino, which was originally called "Union Plaza" (in honor of the railway station).

Upland Industries, a real estate division of Union Pacific, and developer Frank E. Scott have begun construction of the Union Plaza complex on the site of the former station. And on July 2, 1971, on a very magical and mysterious date - 00:00, the casino officially opened. It was run by a team of local casino executives that included Sam Boyd, Jackie Gogan, J.K. Hassels, Jr., and Bill Boyd.

Soon (from 1990 to 1992) a red neon object was installed on the tower of the hotel, which later became the logo and sign of the Plaza Hotel.

At the beginning of the development of the hotel, its owners changed several times, there were major quarrels and misunderstandings between the hotel and the directors of restaurants, nevertheless, a few years later, this period ended, and active construction and modernization of the Plaza began.

In 2010 the hotel was officially closed for renovations. Furniture, carpets, plumbing… Almost everything was replaced with a new one, in some halls the design was even redone, and in 2011 the complex opened its doors again, but in a new form.

In 2014, it became known about the construction of a new building with 350 seats, which in the future will become the new home arena of the Las Vegas Wranglers ECHL minor league hockey team.

Since 2011, the hotel has begun active renovations again, but without closing: amenities are being improved, the pool is being renovated, open spaces are being created, and a pickleball court is being built. Plaza becomes the only resort center in which a big pickleball tournament takes place in September of the same year.
